This 1877 Savage Mine (Virginia City, Nv) daily operations letter provides a fascinating glimpse into the daily workings of a major precious metal underground mine One Hundred and Thirty years ago. Although we have run across a fair amount of Savage checks, receipts and other similar financial documents, daily operation logs of this quality are were generally purged from the files and harder to find. Most folks, including companies, simply did not save this type of material. You can see from the picture that there is a small cancel punch mark hole below the M in Mining.
